Registration for PROV: Virtual Metis Alive 2022 is Closed

Experience the joy of Metis jigging and the importance of fiddle music and dance in our vibrant Metis communities. Hear stories of Metis kitchen parties and why our fiddle tunes are called crooked. Explore the Metis sash and it’s uses in the past as well as today. Note: Have families provide a broom for one of the dances. A hockey stick or lacrosse stick can work too.

Explore why the Metis people have been called Flower Beadwork People. Compare Metis beadwork with beadwork from other Indigenous nations and hear teachings about spirit beads, vamps and gators. Learn how to one needle bead and make a small fabric beaded fire bag (pouch) to keep your treasures in.

Supply list:
- sewing needle will work (beading needle if you have one)
- cotton thread will work (nylon beading thread if you have)
- 8.5 x 11 inch piece of fabric such as flannel, felt or brush cotton; one solid color
- two colors of yarn, 5 m of each color
- size 6 glass beads; 4 or 5 colors (suggestion of green, yellow and 2 or 3 other colors for flowers)
- 4 x 5 inch stiffened felt or old denim
- stapler with staples
- scissors
- optional: pinking shears if you have them
- pattern printed; sent via email
